SG unlock + Paint Stream/Q&A Tonight!

Stretch Goal Unlocked : Planetary Exploration Part 1

Another stretch goal unlocked! NICE! This one includes a bunch of stuff. For scenery we have the final set of a ton of rock and flora to flesh out any alien planets, caverns, etc, plus a ventilation access hatch to get down from the surface of a planet to a hidden bunker below. For minis we have two intentionally generic "space explorers". Initially these guys were gonna be medics, but we realized you could use them for any number of scifi use cases - medics, support personnel, crew members, etc. We also add the "Explore-1 Recon Truck" to the mix - an off-road exploratory vehicle for your science sorties or transport missions. I'll probably make a generic cargo sled to pull behind (or the hover platform would also work too!)

Paint Stream

If you're free tonight, Ryan from Cephalopod Studios (awesome paint studio) and myself are hanging out at 7pm CST where Ryan will be painting a not-yet-unlocked stretch goal mini that is - in my opinion - one of the coolest in the campaign. Ryan will be 100% brush painting it, and explaining his awesome methods as he goes through, and we'll be chatting about a bunch of stuff related to this campaign, RPG/tabletop gaming in general, and shooting the shit. Join us here at 7pm CST: twitch.tv/cephalopodstudios

Sharing and Ongoing KS Logistics

I opted to make this a 40 day KS (vs my usual 30 days) due to uncertainties in many folks employment, income, etc. I'm regretting that at this point for a few reasons, but unfortunately it cannot be changed once the KS is live. The good news is that it'll give me a bit more time to wrap stuff up before it ends and I should be able to deliver all the files damn near immediately after the KS ends. We had an *incredible* first day, but already seeing quite a bit of slowdown - more than I expected. I'll be doing my part to promote things like crazy, release a ton of free files every week, and advertise to make sure we keep unlocking more stretch goals.

BUT one thing I have discovered is that the scifi gaming community is very fragmented compared to the fantasy gamers I traditionally have known. I would like to ask for all your help on a few fronts:

1) If you know of any games, communities, forums, etc where people would get value from the models in the project - please let me know in the comments below!

2) Please help spread the word and share the KS where you think is appropriate - I'll be creating some social stretch goals later on in the project, and any/all sharing now will help get more cool stuff unlocked, help with those future goals, and make the project even better for everybody involved!

Stretch goal tweak + paint stream
about 6 years ago – Fri, Mar 27, 2020 at 02:58:18 PM

Yo! Just a quick note/update about 2 things:

1) I realized I made a mistake on the stretch goals - I had intended them to be spaced every $3k, but the last one was $4k, so I fixed them and updated accordingly. The good news is that means we are $1k closer to the next stretch goal! I also didn't update the next visible one, which I fixed

2) The awesome paint jobs for many of the minis on the campaign page was done by my friend Ryan over at Cephalopod Studios. During this Kickstarter, we are going to do a few live streams where Ryan paints a yet-unshown item or two, Ryan and I chat, and we answer any/all questions - ranging from requests for models, printing questions, painting questions, and more! These have been fun in the past - the first one is going to be at 7pm this coming Mon - Mar 30 @ 7pm CST right here: twitch.tv/cephalopodstudios - I promise the mini he's painting is gonna be friggin awesome!

If you have a specific topic or question you want to talk about, you can throw it in this google form here (especially if you can't make that time, as we can answer it and you can watch the stream later). I've learned a ton about painting from watching Ryan's streams, so be sure to subscribe to him on FB & Twitch.

Stretch goal #4 Unlocked, and free "TRAK-R" vehicles
about 6 years ago – Thu, Mar 26, 2020 at 11:46:29 AM

Yo folks! Hope your isolation is going well, and your 3D printers are still humming away merrily! We unlocked another stretch goal - NICE. Also, I just released another free file (expect many more), so thought I would shoot out a quick update.

This unlock reveals the engine room component set - which includes multiple components that can be used for all kinds of purposes (plasma engines, air filtration system, generator, power core, etc) and a little hovering maintenance cart full of fuel cells, canisters, tools, etc - perfect for a hangar bay or engine room. Also added is a multi-purpose hovering platform, great for hauling items, transporting prisoners (pulled by the Orax), etc. Last but not least are the first 2 of 4 vehicles in the "TRAK-R" personal exploration vehicle series. I whipped these up on a whim, so decided to make them free, so you can print them right now. Included are the hover bike and quad/ATV versions!

You can download the TRAK-R vehicles from the free stuff folder HERE

48 hours into the project and we've unlocked about 30 new models. NOT TOO SHABBY!!!

DAY 1 in the books - Holy Space Balls!!!
about 6 years ago – Tue, Mar 24, 2020 at 09:17:34 PM

Well, this campaign took off at a hell of a run! Thank you all so much for jumping on board, and supporting  the project - I promise it' sonly gonna get better an better!

Unlocked Stretch Goals

Three stretch goals in the books on day 1 after funding the project in LESS THAN ONE HOUR. This is my sixth Kickstarter to date, and I have never seen such a fast response from backers. That mean we get to the fun stuff of unlocking new things right away.

Minis: Added to the minis are two agent from the shadowy "Galactic syndicate". Also added is the small-in-stature-but-not-influence liaison from the Syndicate, with his hover-powered floaty chair,  Last but not least are two lizardmen - one brandishing two razor-edged swords and the other a combat-hardened brute with plate armor and a big gun. Note that I noticed that I didn't have the EC-025 Recon Bot in the renders, so I tossed him in these - even though he was included in the core models, so just ignore that ;-)

Vehicles: First added is the Lancer Modular Speeder, made by my friend Ryan Beasecker over at Hero's Hoard. Included is the MK1 and MK2 version. The MK2 has a fancy spoiler and jets, and modular insets allow either version to be a single seat, double seat, or windshield. Also added is the "Wheelie" all-terrain bike - basically a bike built around a huge tire that lets you get deep off the beaten path.

Scatter: The Galactic Syndicate needs some offices, so I provided you with a bunch of office furniture (including a high-tech file cabinet, desk chair and stool, lounge chair and couch, and 3 desk varieties). Next up is a set of "Eldar alien artifacts/ruins" - relics from a bygone race that can contain secrets or ancient technologies.

Quick note about bases and free test files

Quite a few folks ran into issues with Thingiverse functioning really poorly, so I wanted to give you all another vector to get access to these files. If you ran into issues with Thingiverse, check out this Dropbox link instead.
