DungeonSticks - Space Station

DungeonSticks - Space Ship

I just published the first set of scifi DungeonSticks - the space station. This first scifi release is intentionally simplistic - scifi can be crazy complex and detailed, but the goal of these is to print them fast, paint them faster, and get them on the table - so I designed these to be able to do just that. There's nice detailing in the doors for visual interest but the walls are a very simple/basic design with some lighting elements. I'll do some more complex scifi walls in the future to complement/augment these.

If you aren't familiar with DungenSticks check out this video I made for the original cavern ones: WATCH . The idea is that these are fast/modular/simple wall designs that allow visibility for players but let you quickly build floor plans. These are based on the v3 template version of the design, which includes a "starlink" connector option to hold fixed angles (or round peg is an option also, the v3 templates are more modular).

As noted above, for the new v3 style DungeonSticks, you print a wall/door/etc, then whichever end pieces you want (starlink, round, couplers, etc) and combine them. You can glue the ends in if you want them to be permanent, or leave them unglued if you want to be able to change them.

Take a look on Thingiverse HERE or in the freebies folder HERE. If you wanna see the full collection of all released DungeonSticks you can see them on Thingiverse HERE (please note that most sets are the older versions with the pegs integrated, but they still work great)

Feedback Poll

If you haven't had a chance, please take a minute to complete this feedback poll and make your voice heard as it relates to what new stuff will be added in stretch goals!

Feedback Poll
about 4 years ago – Sun, Apr 05, 2020 at 05:39:47 PM

Hi folks, hope you are all having a great weekend! I have TONS of models in the works for stretch goals... I've become a bit addicted to producing sci-fi stuff and I'm wanted to take a minute to get some feedback before I go all willy-nilly creating every possible thing I can think of - though I'll definitely do some of that ;-)

I put together a quick poll to get your feedback on types of minis, vehicles, and scatter you would like to see me try to include in this KS, or future projects as well. I absolutely love feedback and ideas from my customers so please don't be shy about suggesting ideas - either in the poll (there's an "other" option in each category) or in the comments - of course I can't guarantee your suggestion will be included but I do my best to accommodate where I can, and want every backer to be more than pleased with their purchase.

Also included in the survey is a question about what game(s) you plan to use these models for.

If you have 30-60 seconds to spare, please take minute to complete this poll - thanks! https://forms.gle/FTQ2Lkw9GNPR8JYb6

Free Model + Paint Contest!
about 4 years ago – Fri, Apr 03, 2020 at 04:19:45 PM

I have decided to run a paint contest, coinciding with another free, supportless mini!  Details below.

THE MINI: Available HERE on Thingiverse or in the freebies folder, is a friendly - or deadly - robot. He's available in 2 versions s: "normal" and "armed" (with a shoulder mounted and arm mounted laser), and based with one of my new scifi bases or unbased. This mini will print wonderfully in both resin or FDM.

CONTEST OVERVIEW: The contest starts right now! All you have to do is print and paint this mini. There's categories, and you don't have to be a great painter to win - creativity is key! In addition - everybody who enters will also receive another free mini from the Ignis Quadrant to print early (sent out the day after the contest ends). You will be judged on fun and creativity - not your print itself!

REQUIREMENTS: No purchase necessary to participate, open to anybody with access to a 3D printer who can print the mini. To confirm your entry you just follow the submission instructions below, and we encourage you all to share your submission / painted pics online on social media, and link back to the Kickstarter (but that's optional, we just hope you enjoy the free minis and contest, and want to share!). Submissions are open until 10pm, Sun Apr 12 - and we'll announce the winners the following week.

THE CATEGORIES: There are 2 categories that will be judged;

  • 1) Best Looking Mini - obviously a great paint job can help here, but "best looking" is subjective to the judges. If you wish to enter this category, print/paint your mini up any way you would like - scifi/cyberpunk are obvious choices, but a fantasy-themed golem would work too!
  • 2) Coolest/Funnest Scene - Print/paint up the mini and place it in some kind of interesting scene on the tabletop - theme/style/etc is up to you - you just need to have a painted version of the mini in some kind of scene. Stuff that look fun, makes the judges laugh, etc are all good strategies here. Also bonus points if the scene includes other tabletop 3D printed items

Please note you can paint 1 mini and use the same mini to enter both categories. Max 1 entry per person per category.

THE PRIZES!

There will be a top prize, and a runner up for each category. The 1st prize winner of each category will receive a copy of every single EC3D STL to date Including every set from EC3D on Hero's Hoard, the content from all-in pledges from the past 6 EC3D Kickstarters,  a free all-in pledge for the Ignis Quadrant, and a request for piece of scenery or mini to be made and added to the Ignis Quadrant campaign that all backers will receive (within reason, based on back/forth communication with me) - all of this a retail value of around $300!

2nd prize in each category will receive a free all-in pledge for the Ignis Quadrant and $50 to use for add-ons in the pledge manager after the campaign.

THE JUDGES: Myself (Evan Carothers from EC3D), Ryan Calhoun (owner of Cephalopod Studios & Cuddlefish Colors), and Danny Herrero (owner of 3D Printed Tabletop)

HOW TO SUBMIT AN ENTRY: Take a pic of your entry(ies) and send them over by using this form: go.ec3d.design/ec3d-ignis-quadrant-paint-contest-entry

Hoverboard (free) + Truck Updates
about 4 years ago – Wed, Apr 01, 2020 at 03:43:24 PM

Hello folks! Hope all is well/healthy/safe on your end. I'm over here making tons and tons of awesome scifi models, and wanted to shoot you all a quick update. Trust me when I tell you some of the stuff in future stretch goals is gonna be friggin awesome!

Hoverboards

I got the idea for a hoverboard from a customer on my FB page, so I whipped one up  - perfect for when you gotta make a quick getaway (and Biff is hot on your heels!) , deliver a pizza in record time, or outmaneuver your enemies. Designing a hoverboard for minis had a few challenges because I wanted to be able to see some of the components when a based mini was on it but not have it be too big and bulky. The design is relatively simplistic/clean, and prints dead-simple with a small stand, and is designed to hold a 1' (25.4mm) round based mini. There's two versions - one regular hoverboard and one with a computer/handles (like a futuristic Segway or scooter).

You can grab it on Thingiverse HERE or in the Freebies Dropbox folder HERE.

..a few sneak peeks from some upcoming stretch goal test prints in there too ;-)

Truck Updates

I made a few updates to the "Explore-1" Rover Truck too I wanted to share. I scaled it up a bit and made it wider, and added a hitch on the back and a built-in winch in the front. The rolling wheels are still an option, but I also created some modular treads you can use instead. I wanted to really differentiate this vehicle from a more recon-focused buggy I'm working on for a future goal.

SG unlock + Paint Stream/Q&A Tonight!
about 4 years ago – Mon, Mar 30, 2020 at 10:49:28 AM

Stretch Goal Unlocked : Planetary Exploration Part 1

Another stretch goal unlocked! NICE! This one includes a bunch of stuff. For scenery we have the final set of a ton of rock and flora to flesh out any alien planets, caverns, etc, plus a ventilation access hatch to get down from the surface of a planet to a hidden bunker below. For minis we have two intentionally generic "space explorers". Initially these guys were gonna be medics, but we realized you could use them for any number of scifi use cases - medics, support personnel, crew members, etc. We also add the "Explore-1 Recon Truck" to the mix - an off-road exploratory vehicle for your science sorties or transport missions. I'll probably make a generic cargo sled to pull behind (or the hover platform would also work too!)

Paint Stream

If you're free tonight, Ryan from Cephalopod Studios (awesome paint studio) and myself are hanging out at 7pm CST where Ryan will be painting a not-yet-unlocked stretch goal mini that is - in my opinion - one of the coolest in the campaign. Ryan will be 100% brush painting it, and explaining his awesome methods as he goes through, and we'll be chatting about a bunch of stuff related to this campaign, RPG/tabletop gaming in general, and shooting the shit. Join us here at 7pm CST: twitch.tv/cephalopodstudios

Sharing and Ongoing KS Logistics

I opted to make this a 40 day KS (vs my usual 30 days) due to uncertainties in many folks employment, income, etc. I'm regretting that at this point for a few reasons, but unfortunately it cannot be changed once the KS is live. The good news is that it'll give me a bit more time to wrap stuff up before it ends and I should be able to deliver all the files damn near immediately after the KS ends. We had an *incredible* first day, but already seeing quite a bit of slowdown - more than I expected. I'll be doing my part to promote things like crazy, release a ton of free files every week, and advertise to make sure we keep unlocking more stretch goals.

BUT one thing I have discovered is that the scifi gaming community is very fragmented compared to the fantasy gamers I traditionally have known. I would like to ask for all your help on a few fronts:

1) If you know of any games, communities, forums, etc where people would get value from the models in the project - please let me know in the comments below!

2) Please help spread the word and share the KS where you think is appropriate - I'll be creating some social stretch goals later on in the project, and any/all sharing now will help get more cool stuff unlocked, help with those future goals, and make the project even better for everybody involved!
